ViewSonic is adding in SRS TruSurround XT to its 16-inch and 24-inch HDTVs. If you’re unfamiliar with SRS, their TruSurround XT is designed to create a surround sound experience using 2-channel audio instead of the normal 5.1 setup. Virtual surround sound will probably not replace traditional setups, but SRS is trying.
ViewSonic looks to keep their products differentiated from everyone else. If all things are equal, why not pick the television with virtual surround sound? The LCD HDTVs will be revealed in the third quarter of this year (2009).
In a totally unscientific test, I tested out some SRS equipped technologies and they were quite good. SRS is also running a promotion where they are giving away three ViewSonic HDTVs.
